Teaching Assistantship - Center for Quantitative Science

The Center for Quantitative Science, which is administered by the College of Ocean and Fishery Sciences and the College of Forest Resources, has a part-time (50% FTE), temporary (December 16, 2008 – March 15, 2009) Teaching Assistant opportunity available for Winter Quarter 2009. We are seeking a UW graduate student who is competent in statistics to serve as a TA for Q Sci 381, Introduction to Probability and Statistics.

The expected responsibilities of the TA are as follows:

*TAs at 50% FTE should expect to average approximately 20 hours/week, 220 hours for the quarter. Winter appointments run December 16-March 15, 2009.
*Running labs, help sessions and recitation sessions;
*Grading papers;
*Providing occasional lectures;
*Maintaining office hours;
*TAs are generally expected to attend the courses to which they are assigned.

Requirements:
# Academic standing as a UW Graduate Student and eligibility to hold a Graduate Student Assistantship
# Availability for full appointment timeframe (December 16 – March 15)
# Experience as a TA
# Background and enthusiasm to communicate effectively with biology, zoology, conservation, ecology and natural resource management students.

Condition of Employment:
# Currently registered UW graduate student

A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification may be required prior to hire.

Terms:
A 50% FTE Teaching Assistantship pays a stipend which varies depending on graduate level and student's home department. The salary schedule is available at: Graduate Student Salary Schedules

Teaching Assistants will be required to register for a minimum of ten credits per quarter; the successful applicant will be responsible for paying any student fees. Operating fee (including most of tuition) will be paid. Graduate Appointee accident/sickness insurance will be provided.
